The decision of the Lithuanian basketball league (LKL) to reduce quantity of matches of "Zhalgiris" and "Letuvos Ritas" in the internal championship to facilitate to clubs participation in VTB United League, it is favorable both to VTB league, and the Lithuanian basketball in whole, the General Director of the league Andrey Shirokov declared to R-Sport agency.

 In future season "Zhalgiris" and "Letuvos Ritas" will play only away matches with other rivals on the championship of Lithuania in which all 12 teams participate. Besides, two internal duels will be carried out in which the winner of the regular championship will be defined. A playoff initial stage both clubs will miss and will fight for medals at once in a semi-final.

 "This decision will allow everybody to go forward. The Lithuanian basketball federation first of all was determined to working of the new quality infrastructure (created to Eurobasket-2011). Guest tour of the Lithuanian grandees will allow this infrastructure to work and will allow Lithuanian basketball to develop very quickly. On the other hand, this decision will allow leading Lithuanian clubs to be improved and become even more strongly. So this decision is positive both for United League, and for the Lithuanian basketball. None of the parties will be restrained", - Shirokov said by phone.

 On VTB League council which passed at the end of May, the tournament format for the next season previously was approved: 20 clubs divided into two groups will participate in the regular championship. Eight teams from each group will get to playoffs where 1/8 finals series will be played to two victories, and since a quarterfinal - to three victories.

"On league council we made the base decision and planned within a month to coordinate it with all participating countries. Now met with (the owner of "Zhalgiris" Vladimir) Romanov, in the evening there is a meeting with representatives of basketball Federation of Lithuania, and tomorrow morning - "Letuvos Ritas". Constantly in work and negotiations", - Shirokov added.

 In the current season in VTB League draw 18 teams participated from Russia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Latvia and Belarus.
