Matteo Boniciolli: “I am proud of my players”

Kazakhstan’s basketball national team suffered its first defeat at the Asian Championship, which takes place in the city of Manila (Philippines).
 
In the first match of the second group stage Kazakhstan national team lost to the Chinese basketball players with a score of 67:73. Kazakhstani players started the game not well, as expected, lost the first quarter with a difference of 12 points (12:24). The second period ended wirh a draw 18:18 and as a result the score of the

 period – 30:42.
 
The third quarter was more active and our team was leading the entire period, making opponents be nervous. As a result – 16:8, Kazakhstan completed this quarter in its favor, reduced the lead till 4 points – 46:50. In the final quarter Kazakhstan national team even managed to go ahead 63:62, but keep the winning result wasn’t posssible today.
 
Kazakhstani players statistics: Jerry Johnson – 13 points, Michael Yevstigneev – 11, Rustam Yargaliev and Vitaly Lapchenko – by 9 points.

– I’m proud of my players. Today, before the game I put two goals for the players. First, to win, this goal we almost completed , and secondly, to show everyone in the Championship, that we can play with any opponent, even so strong as China. We came here for a medal and I would like everyone to understand our intentions. I am sure that after the game with China, everyone has realized that if they want to win Kazakhstan, they have to play with maximum effort!
Tomorrow our team will play with Korea.
