Russian club Krasnye Krylia will not compete in the 2015-16 VTB United League next season. Samara management gave official notice to the league, basing its decision on its current violation of article 6.2.1 of the Championship Regulations ("Having access to a sports arena that seats at least 3,000 spectators").

At the same time, Krasnye Krylia management informed the league that after completing renovations at the Sports Palace in Samara and meeting all of the requirements of the regulations, the club would apply to compete in the VTB United League for the 2016-17 season.

– Krasnye Krylia has spent four seasons in the VTB United League, advancing twice to the playoffs. The team plays exciting, unique, recognizable basketball, – noted VTB United League president Sergey Kushchenko in an interview with VTB-League.com. – But the VTB United League is not just basketball. It's also a spectacle and entertainment product, which must correspond to the league's high standards in all areas and is the reason we are paying a lot of attention to the arenas where our games are held. Krasnye Krylia's Sports Palace does not meet the league's capacity requirements and we can't make another exception for the club. There is a lot of basketball tradition in Samara and no doubt that basketball can attract crowds of 3,000 and 5,000. We don't want to lose this city, which is why we believe the club is hitting "pause" in order to resolve its technical difficulties before returning next year.
